Mag Instrument Defends Intellectual Property Rights in Japan

The Japan Times reports on a signal ruling in a Japanese court where the U.S.-designed Mini Maglite flashlight was recognized as a three-dimensional trademark. 'It is the first product a court has recognized as a three-dimensional trademark. "The product has gained a good reputation for its unprecedentedly unique design, and it is even housed in a museum in the United States," presiding Judge Toshiaki Iimura said handing down the ruling. The manufacturer, Mag Instrument Inc., "conducted long-term, large-scale marketing campaigns for the flashlight, and it is now possible to differentiate it from those of other companies," Iimura said.'

New Mini Maglite 2AA & 3AA Led Flashlights

The new Mini Maglite 2AA and 3AA flashlights have been upgraded and now come equipped with "MAG-LEDâ„¢ Technology" which basically translates into the replacement of the incandescent with led bulbs. Other than the standard features of being able to focus the beam by rotating the head and the "candle mode" which facilitates the upright positioning of the flashlights on flat surfaces, there is the "Intelligent Energy Source Management" feature which is supposed to " balance high brightness with extended battery life". The Maglite flashlights have come at the right time with the "led" technology many consumers have been long demanding.
