Xenide 20W HID Flashlight Review - PaulStamatiou.com

AELight-Xenide-20W-HID-Flashlight.jpg

PaulStamatiou.com published a review of the AE Xenide 20W HID (High Intensity Discharge) flashlight. 'Crafted from lightweight and sturdy aluminum, the Xenide weighs only 1.9 pounds but pumps out ~1200 Lumens of light from its metal halide (xenon + halide = xenide) HID bulb. As with all HID lights, current from the power source (a 2600mAh rechargeable li-ion battery) runs through a ballast to boost the output, similar to a power inverter in a car which lets you plugin 120V devices. The only difference being that HID bulbs take several thousand volts to crank over. As such, the entire unit is engineered to be well sealed as you don’t want thousands of volts short-circuiting and burning up or potentially shocking you. The Xenide is also water proof to about 2 meters for a short while.'

Review: Polarion PF40 'Helios' HID Flashlight - Defense Review

Polarion-PF40.jpg

A review of the Polarion PF40 'Helios' HID Flashlight has been posted on Defense Review. 'DefenseReview recently got the chance to T&E the Polarion PF40 Helios High Intensity Discharge (HID) Searchlight / Flashlight for a couple weeks, and we came away very impressed with it. The light's intensity/power is impressive. We actually took it to a local high school (including the field) and aimed/shined it everywhere we felt was relevant--into the school building/structure, into our parked car, accross the field, into the trees, etc.--from distances of approx. 15 ft. to approx. 150 yards, possibly even as far as 200 yards.

AE Light PL24/6-S "Shorty" HID Flashlight

PL24%20Shorty.jpg

The PL24/6-S "Shorty" flashlight is one of those intensely bright flashlights which emits light via an HID (High-intensity discharge) bulb. 'It's called the "Shorty" because the standard version of the PL24 is longer, but they have managed to shrink the form factor at a cost of reduced runtime. The PL24/6-S produces an amazing amount of light from a HID bulb, a power regulating ballast, and a Lithium Ion rechargeable battery. All are built into a body about the same length and about 1½ times the diameter of a 3-D Mag.' These flashlight are expensive and are priced at over $300.

Polarion H1 Helios Tactical HID Searchlight Review

Polarion%20H1%20Helios%20HID%20Searchlight.jpg

Frank Borelli writing over at Defense Review has posted a review of the pricy Polarion H1 Helios Tactical HID Searchlight 'The Helios is twelve inches long, five inches across at the front end, and four inches at the back end. The 40watt Xenon-Metal lamp assembly puts out 4,000 lumens and its published life is "up to 3,000 hours". The light weighs about four pounds - and that feels awfully heavy when you're used to much smaller hand-held lights, but seems light when you compare it to the old 12V square ugly lights.
