Review: Energizer AA Alkaline Batteries - CPF Reviews

Energizer-AA-Alkaline-Batteries.jpg

CPF Reviews examines the differences between standard AA Sized Energizer Alkaline Max and Energizer Alkaline e2 batteries. 'Energizer is a well known brand in the world of batteries and flashlights. It shares a legendary history with Eveready. Eveready, a brand that was established in early 1900's. Eveready, a company, where Alkaline Batteries were invented. As a matter of fact, Alkaline Batteries are in existence since as early as 1950's. Alkaline Batteries gained popularity in later years and today it commends almost about 60% of the consumer battery market. Earlier there was only one type of Alkaline Battery. However, off late, there has been an explosion of different types of Alkaline Batteries and the terminologies associated with it are just mind boggling.'

Eneloop Batteries Reviewed

Eneloop-Batteries-Reviewed.jpg

Javno.com have published a review of Sanyo's Eneloop precharged NiMH batteries. 'Unlike “standard” rechargeable NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries which loose approximately 1 percent of their power daily when not used, Sanyo`s eneloop series uses new, one might say exotic, materials, enabling the battery to maintain the initial charge for an impressive period. According to information from the manufacturer, eneloops stored at a temperature of 20 degrees maintain 90 percent of their power after six months, 85 percent after a year and 70 percent of their initial capacity after two years of non-usage. In the end, this enables Sanyo to deliver them on the market already charged and ready for usage, which is something no other manufacturer can brag about.'

Rechargeable Batteries: Great for the environment short on juice.

Energizer-D-Battery.jpg

Mike Adams writing over at News Target investigates just why it appears rechargeable Energizer "D" batteries are manufactured with lower capacities than their "throw away" alternatives. 'Why are Energizer "D" batteries so weak? To find out the answer, I decided to take one apart and see what was inside. As this picture reveals, inside the "D" battery is a much smaller battery! The Energizer "D" battery is actually just a cheap plastic shell surrounding a much smaller, low-capacity battery similar in size and capacity to an "AA" battery (2500 mAh). This explains why the Energizer "D" rechargeable battery has such low power capacity to begin with. The company doesn't even try to make it a high-capacity "D" battery, it seems. They're filling part of the inside of the battery body with nothing more than cheap plastic and useless air. And how much does Energizer charge for this "D" battery? More than $12 each!'

Eneloop AA Batteries Review - Imaging Resource

Eneloop-AA-Batteries-Reviewed.jpg

Imaging Resource have published a review of the Eneloop rechargeable AA battery. ‘You can use it right away because it holds its charge while sitting on the shelf. So there's no need to pop it in the charger for an hour or so to top it off. And because it retains "up to 85 percent" of its charge for a year, according to Sanyo, you don't have to keep it in the charger, either. That's accomplished by a new super lattice alloy which increases the electrical capacity of the battery, reduces the internal resistance and allows higher discharge currents -- all good stuff in a digicam. They cost a bit less than a set of normal NiMHs and since you can recharge them 1,000 times, they'll outlast your equipment. If you charge them once a week (we do not), you'll be using them for over 19 years.’

And The Best Batteries are.........?

Duracell-Rechargeable-AA-NiMH-Batteries.jpg

An analysis of the latest features available in batteries used to power portable gadgets has been posted over at the Chief Engineer. 'Rechargeable batteries account for a smaller portion of the overall market, but sales have been growing at a rate between 10 percent to 20 percent a year, Belle said. Energizer’s rechargeable battery four-pack costs $10.99. That extra cost is justified as the batteries are reused over time, according to Responsible Energy Corp. chief executive Curtis Randolph, whose company operates the Greenbatteries.com Web site. The convenience of non-rechargeable batteries, though, still appeals to most consumers, who don’t want to have to plan ahead and recharge in time.'

Battery Power Explained

Energizer-A-9-volt-battery.jpg

HowStuffWorks have published a comprehensive article explaining how batteries work. ‘Inside the battery itself, a chemical reaction produces the electrons. The speed of electron production by this chemical reaction (the battery's internal resistance) controls how many electrons can flow between the terminals. Electrons flow from the battery into a wire, and must travel from the negative to the positive terminal for the chemical reaction to take place. That is why a battery can sit on a shelf for a year and still have plenty of power -- unless electrons are flowing from the negative to the positive terminal, the chemical reaction does not take place. Once you connect a wire, the reaction starts. The ability to harness this sort of reaction started with the voltaic pile.’
