Energizer Rechargeable USB Charger Review - Mobile Computer Mag

Energizer-Rechargeable-USB-Charger-Review.jpg

A review of the Energizer Rechargeable USB Charger has been posted over at Mobile Computer Mag. ‘Both small and light enough to slip into a pocket, the Energizer USB charger can charge two AAA or AA batteries at once, or one 9V battery. The different cell sizes are catered for by one set of terminals being on a two-position plastic block that hinges back when a larger cell needs to be inserted. This clever arrangement does have one small problem – on our model, one AAA battery kept pinging out from between the sprung terminals. The captive USB cable wraps around the charger’s base when not in use, but the short captive cable needs to be pulled extremely taught for the USB plug to clip into the slot on the charger’s underside. Still, it’s an extremely neat arrangement – take note, Buffalo!’

UniROSS USB Charger Review - Pocket-Lint

UniROSS-USB-Charger.jpg

Pocket-Lint have published a review of the UniROSS USB Charger. 'The UniROSS USB Charger charges either 2 AAA or 2 AA batteries by plugging directly into a USB socket. In the pack you get four AAA UniROSS batteries alongside the charger. The charger can swap between AA and AAA by flipping a bracket and there are two lights, one for each battery to let you know when they are fully charged. Simple, and effect and when it came to charging batteries the USB charger does exactly as promised, the trouble is, the housing is just too large. So large in fact that users of a computer with two USB socket close to each other won't be able to use the other socket while the charger is in action,'

Review: MH-C9000 WizardOne NiMH battery charger from Powerex - News Target.com

WizardOne-MH-C9000.jpg

Mike Adams writing over at News Target.com has posted a review of the MH-C9000 WizardOne NiMH battery charger from Powerex. 'The WizardOne MH-C9000 comes with outstanding safety features built right in. It senses both voltage and temperature changes, and it automatically shuts off any battery that behaves outside normal, safe parameters. If the battery temperature gets too hot during charging, for example, the MH-C9000 immediately cuts off the current to it, preventing it from getting any hotter and forcing it to cool off. How many chargers do you know if with that kind of safety feature? (Most battery chargers operate on a "charge and pray" principle, meaning they just slam your battery with a certain amount of current for a certain period of time, regardless of what's happening with the battery temperature or voltage.)'

Modded hand-cranked flashlight charges your iPod Shuffle

hand-crank-USB-power-generator.jpg

Darren Yates, writing over at Techlogg.com, details his modifications of a hand-crank torch to produce enough juice to power up an iPod Shuffle. 'First off, take the torch and remove the four Philips head screws from the back. Keep them safe and take off the top cover. Underneath, you’ll see the back of the motor at back and a circuit board with two wires connected to the motor. Desolder these wires and remove the three Philips head screws holding the circuit board in place. DON’T LOSE THESE SCREWS – you’ll need them later. Pull up the circuit board with the LEDs and the front bezel. Put the circuit board aside – you won’t need it any more but keep the bezel – we’ll use it in a moment.'

Renu IT Alkaline Battery Recharger: Battery charger [recharger] "releases the potential" of rechargeable cells

Renu-IT-Alkaline-Battery-Recharger.jpg

The Renu IT Alkaline Battery Recharger from BBTradesales has four charging docks for charging AA and AAA batteries which can accommodate Alkaline, titanium, RAM, NiCd and NiMH batteries. 'Single-use alkaline batteries use only a fraction of their potential, the rest left unusable. Recharging these batteries can be dangerous and is never to be recommended. However, Renu IT Alkaline Battery Recharger has technology that can reliably and safely regenerate “dead” batteries. Renu IT Alkaline Battery Recharger does not add anything to the battery, it simply releases the potential that is already there, by perfecting the internal structure of the cell.'

Eurohike Wind-up Phone Charger Reviewed

Eurohike-Wind-up-phone-charger.jpg

A review of the Eurohike Wind-up phone charger which includes an LED flashlight has been posted over at Tech Digest. 'The built-in torch is actually surprisingly handy – it charges very quickly, retains its charge for a fair few minutes and, more importantly, is reassuringly bright. You even have a choice of brightness settings - using 2, 4 or 5 LEDs. The unit itself is roughly comparable in size to a pack of cards, although it is a little narrower and fatter. The outer edge feels slightly rubberised which helps you to maintain a grip while you wind.'

ThinkGeek's USB Battery Charger

USB-Battery-Charger.jpg

If you are not yet using rechargeable batteries in your flashlight(s) and other gadgets you may be missing out on some savings since the chargers have become relatively inexpensive and some can be powered via USB ports when your computer is in use. 'Pop 4 AA or AAA rechargable batteries in the USB Battery Charger, plug in to your desktop or laptop computer, and wait for a few short hours, and you have enough juice to run your digital camera, MP3 player, or R/C Helicopter. Sweet! The USB Battery Charger comes in black, four inches square and 1 inch high, with a translucent cover. It charges 4 AA or 4 AAA rechargable batteries (or 2 of each) in 4 hours. We cannot stress enough how important it is to NOT try and recharge alkaline batteries as some have been known to explode rather unpleasantly.' The USB Battery Charger is available ThinkGeek for $11.99.

Millets Wind-Up Torch And Phone Charger

Millets-Wind-up-Torch.jpg

The cute-looking Millets Wind-up Torch and Phone Charger is a serious candidate for inclusion among those must-have gadgets in your hand-bag when on the road. Not only does the device provide LED lighting but more importantly, the charger would be a very useful feature for mobile phone users whose battery charges seem unable to hold-out to prolonged mobile usage. 'Simply wind the key and it generates its own electricity. The torch gives the option of two, four or five LEDs and the phone charger has adaptors for most Nokia, Motorola, Sony and Samsung handsets. It comes with a lanyard so you won’t lose it in the undergrowth.'
